Some businesses are built in boardrooms. Ours was built in a garage, on a tabletop vinyl plotter, making decals for a car shop.

Growing up in a family of car enthusiasts — with a brother who went on to found KCTrends, one of the most well-known vehicle customization shops in Kansas City — James was always around cars. In the late '90s, he picked up a small vinyl cutter and started making company decals for KCTrends. That spark eventually grew into a large commercial sign and lighting business, landing contracts with companies like Lowe's, Bank of America, and Boeing.

Then in 2005, a supplier walked into his office and handed him a catalog with a vehicle wrap printer on the cover. James saw it immediately — the perfect collision of his business and his passion.

He made one phone call. To a close friend named Travis O'Guin — co-founder of Strange Music, one of the most iconic independent hip-hop labels in the country. Travis connected James with the label's most famous artist, Tech N9ne, whose upcoming album release needed something bold. The result? Twelve wrapped vehicles. And just like that, Wrap Factory was born.

James ran both companies side by side until the 2008 market crash forced a pivot. When his largest sign and lighting client sold off the division overnight, James didn't flinch. He went all-in on wraps — and never looked back.

Nearly two decades later, Wrap Factory is a full-service wrap studio trusted by local businesses, regional fleets, and customers across the country. Same passion. Same craftsmanship. Just a lot more vinyl.
